This is a topic everyone has an opinion on, since simple agreeing on the fact that a TV series is good or bad can be a definite odyssey. Discover the ten best TV series of All Time in the drama and comedy categories:

Breaking Bad

Ranked 9.5 out of 10 in IMdB, Breaking Bad was awarded 16 Emmys, 6 Critics Choice Awards and 3 Screen Actor Guild Awards, among many others, and is considered one of the absolute best TV series in history.

In his attempt to secure his family’s future after learning he has an incurable disease, high school chemistry teacher Walter White and his former student Jesse Pinkman start their own drug-selling business. Watch this incredible masterpiece, full of consequences and unforeseeable twists.

Friends

A 90’s classic and one of the greatest comedy shows on TV up to this day. in fact, recently Netflix purchased streaming rights of all seasons for 120 million dollars. The series revolves around 6 friends living in Manhattan through their mid 20’s to their late 30’s.  

Game of Thrones

A rather new series (premiered in 2011), that has not yet come to an end, but that has absolutely impacted this era. Based on George R.R. Martin, this fantasy drama focuses on the alliances and conflicts generated around the Iron Throne of The Seven Kingdom amidst an ancient war between men and the white walkers.

Considered one of the best TV series in history, this drama has already won 38 Primetime Emmy Awards, 5 Screen Actors Guild Award, and a Peabody Award.

The Office

Full of cynicism and emotion, The Office combines brutal comedy with strong views against capitalism with absolutely brilliant comedy, delivered by no other thank Ricky Gervais’ character, David Brent.

After 3 years of raging success, the series was remade in the US, starring Steve Carrell. Despite the fact that remakes don’t always work, by adding some distinctive features that separated the original from its remake, this series ran for 8 years. It’s just as ironic and emotional as the original, but with very different twists.

Lost

Aired from 2004 to 2010, this science fiction drama is considered one of the best TV series ever, with an average of over 11 million viewers per episode. After crashing, the survivors of Oceanic Airlines Flight 815 arrive to what seems a deserted island, and must fight all sorts of natural conditions, animals and humans to survive.

The X Files

Despite airing from 1993 to 2002, this series is considered a major pop culture phenomena, dealing mostly with the paranormal. The X Files follow FBI agents Scully and Moulder while conducting their investigations on unsolved cases related to unexplainable events, filled with elements of suspense and mystery.

Seinfeld

Seinfeld ran from 1989 up until 1989 and it was created precisely by Jerry Seinfeld. The sitcom focuses on the life of Jerry Seinfeld, a comedian, and his friends, portrayed by Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Michael Richards  and Jason Alexander.

Up until this day, major publications such as Rolling Stone, TV Guide and Entertainment Weekly consider Seinfeld one of the best TV series of all times.

The Walking Dead

Developed by Frank Darabont and aired in 2010, The Walking Dead had unprecedentedly high ranks for a cable series, and the numbers have since continued to grow. The series features the “walkers”, zombies attempting to take over the world, slowly annihilating human life on the planet.

It follows the sheriff’s deputy Rick Grimes, who wakes up from a coma in amidst the apocalypse and becomes the leader of a group of survivors in Georgia.

The Simpsons

On air since 1989, The Simpsons is the longest-running sitcom and animated program in America, but also the longest-running scripted primetime television series in the country.

Centered on the lives of an average and rather dysfunctioning American working-class family in the fictional town of Springfield, the show focuses on the everyday lives of Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie, as well as of their neighbours and of quite a big number of townsmen and women, from the market owner Apu, to the famous clown Krusty, the police chief Wiggum, reverend Lovejoy and millionaire and factory owner Charles Burns.

The Sopranos

This crime drama television series features the Soprano, a New Jersey Italian American  family, whose head, Tony is a mobster and must find a balance between his organization and his home life. The series went on for six seasons and it’s considered one of the best TV series of all time, winning a multitude of awards, including 21 Emmys and 5 Golden Globes.

Finding the top ten best TV series of any particular year is hard, but deciding which series should be on a top ten list of all time is just about impossible. Many other great series are worth mentioning, such as The West Wing, Curb your Enthusiasm, The Wire,  Community, Mad Men, Parks and Recreation, ER, Frasier, Dexter, 30 Rock and South Park.
